Soothing. Conditioning. Moisturizing. These are some of the buzzy ingredient benefits every beauty & skincare lover likes to hear. And, what also comes to mind when I think of a particular skin-loving ingredient named Allantoin.

What is Allantoin? 

As the Naked Chemist explains it in this article, Allantoin is “the active moisturizing ingredient found in the root of Comfrey. In its organic form it is found in several other plants, such as sugar beet, Comfrey, chamomile, tobacco seed, and wheat sprouts. Traditionally, Comfrey leaves were used to help heal minor skin injuries and swelling, today, this versatile ingredient is used to treat wounds, eczema, burns, psoriasis, acne inflammation, and other skin eruptions.”
 
I love it because:  

• • Allantoin is a plant-derived, vegan ingredient. So, good news, no animals were harmed.
  • It’s an emollient that counteracts dry skin. Who doesn’t love a moisturizer?
  • There are studies that suggest it heals irritated skin. And, since I tend to break out when I use certain products, Allontoin does wonders for my skin.

True Story
 
I have sensitive skin. Every time I test a new product, including Jouer products, I take a gamble on whether I will break out. Let's take it back to 2018, when we were creating our Essential High Coverage Crème Foundation.

We were on a roll, formulating an innovative foundation that gives one small drop the power to create full coverage and an airbrushed, matte finish. We knew we have a great product (it’s still a best seller, see here!) and just when we thought we had everything finalized...I tested it...and my skin broke out. Whomp, whomp. 

So, the team did some research and decided to add in Allantoin. Magically, I didn’t break out anymore. I was immediately sold on this wonder ingredient and couldn’t wait to incorporate it into more formulations.
